Course Information


The training program is scheduled from April to July, yearly.

All the courses are conducted in a duration of 2 or 3 days. The courses start at 9am and end at 5pm each day with a one-hour break for lunch and 15 minutes each for two tea-breaks.

You should receive a course acknowledgement email once you have submitted the registration form to us. Once the course is confirmed to start, you will receive a course confirmation email at least one week before the course commencement date. If you do not receive the course confirmation email, please contact us at 6601 5387 or You will receive your course materials on the first day of the course.

The course is held at NUS Kent Ridge Campus. Please refer to the course confirmation email on the actual location of the training room for the course.

Participants are required to achieve 75% attendance for the course to obtain the Certificate of Attendance issued by the Centre for Family & Population Research, National University of Singapore.


Course Fee

Registration is required to reserve a place for the course as there are limited places for each class. No payment is required when you register for the course. You will only need to pay for the course fee once the course is confirmed to start. A confirmation email will be sent to you at least one week before the course commencement date.

We offer a discount for students, academics, staff and alumni from NUS. There are also discounted fees for group enrollment of three or more participants, and when an individual enrolls for two courses. An additional 10% discount is available for Training Program alumni. If you are an NUS Alumni, you can send a copy of your NUS degree certificate to us to verify that you are a graduate from NUS.


Subsidies and Government Funding


There is a student rate for NUS students who sign up for the training programs. CFPR also offers competitive merit scholarships to outstanding full-time NUS students who are interested to enroll in our training programs. Detailed information on the eligibility and application process can be found here.

PSEA can only be used for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in NUS excluding the training program. For more information on what can the PSEA funds be used for, please visit the MOE website here.

All staff of NCSS member-VWOs and MSF-funded VWOs can apply for the VCF Local Training Grant.

To apply for the VCF grant, VWO registrations need to be submitted to the VCF secretariat before the course commencement and VCF submission deadline. The VCF grant application will be subjected to the approval of the VCF panel. For more information on the VCF grant, please visit the NCSS website here.

The training programs are considered as non-pre-approved courses. For non-pre-approved training courses, the funding level is up to 50% or capped at $500 per course for Singaporean/Permanent Residents and up to 30% or capped at $400 for Employment Pass/S Pass and Work Permit holders. The training programs are offered to anyone who is interested to learn and enhance his or her knowledge and skills on social research methods and practices.

You can register for the course. You will need to arrange your own visa, travel costs to Singapore, accommodation, transport and cover your living expenses while in Singapore.
