Programme
Candidates admitted before Academic Year 2004/2005
The programme consists of 2 tracks. Candidates who opt not to write a dissertation
are required to read 8 modules. Candidates who opt to write a dissertation are
required to read 6 modules only. No candidate will be allowed to switch between the
two tracks after three weeks into the semester in which they are required to offer
their seventh module or dissertation.
Candidates admitted after Academic Year 2004/2005
Candidates will have to read 10 modules. They are not required to write a
dissertation.

Coursework
Candidates admitted before Academic Year 2004/2005
A fulltime candidate must take at least three modules in a semester and may take
up to a maximum of four modules in a semester.A part
time candidate must take
at least one module in a semester and may takeup to a maximum of two modules
in a semester.
Candidates admitted after Academic Year 2004/2005
A fulltime candidate must take at least three modules in a semester and may take
up to a maximum of five modules in a semester. A parttime candidate must take at
least one module in a semester and may take up to a maximum of three modules
in a semester.
Dissertation (Candidates admitted before Academic Year 2004/2005)
(1) On completion of all coursework requirements, candidates offering a
dissertation in place of two elective modules are required to complete and
submit a dissertation for
examination within one semester in the case of a
full-time candidate and within two semesters in the case of a part
time candidate,
within the maximum period of his/her candidature.
(2)
Candidates may, with the approval of the Head of the Department, complete
his/her dissertation outside the University.
(3) Candidates have to complete a dissertation of between 20,000
40,000 characters on an approved topic under the supervision of one or two
supervisors appointed by the Board of Postgraduate Studies on the recommendation
of the Head of Department.
Examination
(1)
An examination may be held at the end of each semester of study for each
module.
(2) A candidate may sit and pass examinations in all modules.
(3) A candidate who fails an essential module may be permitted to retake the
same essential module in a subsequent semester. A candidate who fails an elective
module may be permitted to either retake the same elective module, or replace
the failedmodule by taking another elective module in a subsequent semester.
(4)
A candidate will be required to terminate his/her course of study if he/she
obtains a CAP of less than 2.5 for two consecutive semesters; or less than 3.00
for three
consecutive semesters; or he/she fails in more than 2 modules throughout his
/her
course of study.
