Graduate Student Workshop Series:
Topics in Urban Studies

This workshop series is structured as small discussion groups for graduate students with an interest in the concept of the city and urban studies to meet and engage in constructive dialogue. It is hoped that the multi-disciplinary environment will generate discussion and ideas that can broaden students’ respective research agendas.

Our discussions take place once a month and are informal. Students direct the discussions as well as set discussion material. Sometimes a text is suggested ahead of each meeting; other times presenters talk about their current research in relation to a broader topic for others to listen to and provide feedback.

Most of our areas of interest focus on, but are not limited to, the following areas: urbanisation, urban culture, popular culture, cosmopolitanism, globalisation, places and spaces in urban contexts, and research methodologies.
