Visiting Fellow in Cultural Studies (1 position)


The Department of Communications and New Media (CNM) at the National University of Singapore is seeking a Visiting Fellow in Cultural Studies.


The Department is one of the largest departments in Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, attracting more than 650 students per year. It offers teaching streams in Media Studies, Communication Management and Interactive Media Design. It has existing research concentrations in media effects and health communication studies. The Department has recently taken over the administration of the Faculty’s multidisciplinary Cultural Studies Minor and the Cultural Studies in Asia PhD programmes, and is looking to further develop these programmes as part of its research and teaching profile.  This position will bring research and teaching capacity to build the Department’s new research and teaching focus in Cultural Studies.


The successful candidate will undertake teaching and research in line with the Department’s research strategy, teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, and contributing to the Department’s administration/outreach activities.


We seek applicants with expertise in cultural studies, in particular studies of new media cultures, critical theory and network studies.


The applicant will have research and teaching experience in one or more of the following:

  • Social media cultures
  • Digital ethnography
  • Critical and cultural theory
  • Culture and creative industry studies


The successful candidate must have:

  • A PhD in communication and/or cultural and media studies;
  • Min. 3 years of work experience;
  • Demonstrated record of distinguished international research and service leadership in cultural/communication/media studies;
  • Demonstrated record of distinguished international teaching leadership in cultural/communication/media studies


This position is available for one (01) year (August 2019 – July 2020).
