Content Regulation in the Digital Era - The Case of Video Games

The practice of regulating content has existed for thousands of years in societies all over the world through diverse approaches and objectives. More recently, rapid advances in computing technology, together with the rise of the Internet, have brought about a wave of unprecedented developments and challenges for modern societies. New forms of media and content, frequently communicated via the Internet, have emerged at an astonishing pace, leaving the existing regulatory and legal frameworks of nation-states with much to catch up. Moreover, as new and old forms of content become increasingly intertwined, the effectiveness of national regulatory systems in regulating content in the digital era are called into question. This paper will illustrate how video games are reflective of this phenomenon as well as point out any distinctive features that the case of video games may possess in relation to the issue of regulation. In doing so, it would be possible to establish the relevance of Singapore's regulatory framework and highlight future directions that may be helpful in meeting the challenges of the digital era.

Experience
Abstract:
This research paper seeks to investigate the Bollywood popular culture media scene in Singapore , especially its notable popularity amongst the local Indian population. Through an analysis of the fandom of this popular media, the set of circumstances that have allowed for such a perceptible level of popularity could hopefully be discerned. This particular set of mediating circumstances will be explored through the processes of Globalization. This paper thus is both a look at 1) the fandom of Bollywood media, and 2) the contextual processes of Globalization, both entities that have come together to evince the popularity of Bollywood films in Singapore.

Effects of Anime
on Singapore Audiences
Abstract:
Japan's influence in the region and around the world has been through numerous changes and it has led the way in the development in many sectors of Asia, emerging as the leader in the Asian market today. Japan's anime industry plays an increasingly important role in the global as well as regional cultural industries. Its penetration and popularity among fans has led to the proliferation of Japanese anime, including Singapore.

What effects does this have on the Singaporean audience? This paper will investigate this question using a combination of globalization theories as well as qualitative and quantitative analyses. Using anime as a lens to examine the Japanese popular culture scene in Singapore, we hypothesize that the consumption of Japanese anime in Singapore is only a superficial attraction and does not constitute an assimilation of Japanese cultural values.
