Elizabeth V. CARDOZA

Ms. Elizabeth V. CARDOZA, holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degree (1976) from the University of Singapore, and is a member of both the California Bar and the Singapore Bar (since 1993 and 1977 respectively). Her career in Intellectual Property (IP) spans over more than a decade, first as Singapore Government State Counsel (Examining Attorney, Registry of Trademarks & Patents), and thereafter, as a California Attorney-at-Law, and also as in-house IP Counsel to a leading U.S. software corporation in the Silicon Valley.

In 2002, she returned to Singapore to join the national IP office, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) as head of its newly-established Legal Policy & International Affairs Division, with responsibilities focused on domestic and international IP issues, IP negotiations in bilateral and multilateral agreements, and consequential legislative amendments. She has been active in several professional groups, including the California Bar Association, TiE (The Indus Entrepreneur), and the International Trademark Association (INTA) (as past chair of the Public Education subcommittee of the Brand Names Education Foundation, and currently, on the Alternative Dispute Resolution committee); in March 2005, she co-chaired the highly-successful Asia Pacific Forum held in Singapore on Emerging Issues in Brand Protection, an inaugural collaboration between INTA and IPOS. She has spoken on a range of IP issues at many local, regional and international roundtables and conferences, and recently presented a Paper:"An ASEAN Tapestry:a Synopsis of Intellectual Property Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in Key ASEAN Markets & A Call for Enhanced Focus on ADR Initiatives in ASEAN" at the Asia Law Day (jointly organized by IP Academy, Singapore, and Fordham University School of Law) of the 14 th Fordham Annual Conference on International Intellectual Law & Policy. Cardoza currently is Director of CARDOZA IP, an entrepreneurial venture based in Singapore, poised to focus on consulting, training and research assignments on IP solutions in the Asia Pacific region.
