Concurrently, I also contributed by way of writing several research papers concerning media content policy and regulatory issues. My attachment also involved some significant field-work where I had helped conduct focus groups. Overall, I am immensely pleased that I was able to contribute to these projects with the knowledge I had acquired via ICM modules. Aside from the above, I am a freelance web designer and have done a few commercial websites. My main interest however is digital video-shooting and editing, which I would like to develop as a family business in the future.

Thesis Title:
The Interactive Television: Developing a Favorable Regulatory Environment in Singapore

Abstract:
This thesis investigates how the media regulatory agency in Singapore, the Media Development Authority, moulds the future of television in the context of media convergence among the telecommunications, Information Technology (IT) and broadcasting industries, which gives rise to the concept of Interactive TV (ITV). The ITV which transforms the conventional TV from a one-way broadcast medium to a two-way communication medium allows viewers to access internet-type content and services, on top of their regular TV programmes, such as Television-commerce, Television-mail, Interactive advertisements, Chat and more. Such capabilities however present challenges to the stringent media policy and regulatory mechanisms of Singapore, and raise the question of whether ITV will be allowed to developed to its full potential. Hence this paper discusses the policy discourse regarding the regulation and development of the ITV industry in Singapore to assess whether viewers will be able to exploit the advantages offered by this new medium.
