.: Graduation Requirements

ARTS STUDENTS MATRICULATED IN ACADEMIC YEARS:
2007-2008 onwards

 Single Major (B.A)
 Single Major [B.Soc.Sci (Hons)]

 Single Major (B.A.)

Accumulate at least 60 MCs, which include the following:
1.  Read and pass the following modules:
     NM1101E
     NM2101  
     NM2102   

2.  (i)    a minimum of 20 MCs from level-3000 modules. Of these 20 MCs,
            10 MCs may be at level-4000.
     (ii)   Students may read a maximum of 20 MCs from IT- or CS-prefixed
            modules from approved School of Computing modules.                                    [To be revised - Pending Changes]    
     (iii)  Students may read a maximum of 16 MCs of recognised modules
            from other departments.                                                                      [To be revised - Pending Changes]    

Note:
1.  Level-5000 or higher NM modules are not allowed.

 Single Major [B.Soc.Sci (Hons)]

Accumulate at least 100 MCs, which include the following:
1.  Read and pass the following modules:
     NM1101E
     NM2101
     NM2102  
     NM4101

2.  A minimum of 60 MCs of level-3000 modules or higher NM or
     NM-recognised modules, of which

   (i)  a minimum of 40 MCs from level-4000 or higher (including NM4101).
   (ii) a maximum of 2 level-5000 NM modules. (Subject to department's approval)
       (IMPORTANT: see note 5)
   (iii) Students may read a maximum of 20 MCs from IT- or CS-prefixed
         modules from approved School of Computing modules.                                  [To be revised - Pending Changes]          
   (iv) Students may read a maximum of of 16 MCs of recognised modules
         from other departments.                                                                               [To be revised - Pending Changes]    

3.  NM4402 Honours Thesis/Project (15 MCs) is optional.


Note:
1.  To declare an Honours track, students must have completed 110 MCs,
     including 60 MCs in the Major, with a CAP of 3.5 and above.

2.  To qualify for Honours Thesis/Project (15 MCs), students must be on the
     Honours track. Students who do not attempt the Honours Thesis/Project
     will read level-4000 modules to fulfill the Honours requirements.

3.  Students may also read a level-4000 Independent Studies Module (5 MCs).
     The level-4000 ISM carries a prerequisite of 100 MCs completed, including
     60 MCs in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.5. It precludes the Honours
     Thesis/Project.

4.  All level-4000 modules carry a general pre-requisite of having completed
     80 MCs, including 28 MCs in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.5 or
     being on the Honours track. (Other more stringent pre-requisites may
     apply for some level-4000 modules).

5.  Undergraduates (from all cohorts) will be allowed, in place of their level-4000
     modules, a maximum of two level-5000 modules (subject to the module
     pre-requisites, if any),to fulfil graduation requirements. No level-5000
     Independent Study Module (NM5660) or level-6000 modules (including ISMs)
     will be opened to undergraduates.
