Musical priming: the influence of context on sound processing

Time: 2.30pm – 4.00pm

Venue: AS6 03-33 (Department Seminar Room)

  • Key speaker: Dr Babara Tillman (CNRS researcher at the CNRS-UMR 5020 laboratories "Neurosciences, Behavior, Cognition", Université Lyon1.

One important aspect of cognition is that it cannot be considered without the context in which it occurs. Moreover, context may influence all cognitive processes with respect to their temporal characteristics, their required processing resources (i.e., attention) and/or how these processes are implemented in the brain. The invited speaker, Dr Babara Tillman, is internationally well known for her work on context effects in music processing. Her presentation will not only be informative to cluster individuals who directly study music (e.g., Schirmer, Penney, Wyse) but also to all other cluster members who are interested in how context affects cognition.
