FASS Orientation Talks

Talk Schedule

Clueless about the curriculum in university and at FASS? Concerned about securing your modules? You wouldn't be anymore after attending the FASS Orientation Talks. General Talks allow freshmen to understand the Faculty and University better, while Department talks offer a glimpse into the subject matter of the respective majors that FASS offers. These talks will be held at LT11 and live-streamed in LT12 & 13, and we hope to see you there!

Day One: 17 July 2019

Welcome to FASS! The Freshmen Welcome Tea one of the highlights of the day, as you'll enjoy the opportunity to interact with our Deanery and Heads over a delightful high tea. The tea is immediately followed by the main undergraduate talk, where our Vice-Deans, A/P Valerie Wee and A/P Melvin Yap, will give you an overview of the FASS curriculum and graduation requirements, among other matters of utmost importance to all FASS undergraduates. What modules can be graded on a S/U basis? What special programmes can you participate in? Now that CORS is retired, how can you secure your modules? What foreign language does NUS offer? Find out on 17 July, 9am - 5pm.

Day Two: 18 July 2019

Student Exchange Programmes: where you spend a semester at a partner university across the world, but pay just NUS tuition fees. SEPs are great, and that's why we're opening Day Two of the Freshmen Orientation Talks with a Study Abroad Briefing, for you to find out just how to secure that coveted spot in your dream university (other than FASS, that is.)

Now, you may be wondering why should attend all the other Department Talks (-- 20 majors! woah!) if you already know exactly what it is you'd like to major in. Here's the answer: your curriculum has significant space for unrestricted electives, which allows you to explore other majors, and possibly take them as minors. It's very often that students find themselves falling in love with a foreign subject only after coming to FASS! It's also compulsory to take an exposure module from each of the three divisions (Asian Studies, Humanities, and Social Sciences), so we'd highly encourage you to attend these Department Talks.
