Implementation of 5MC Level-4000 modules >>
Please note the following Subject Major Requirements:
Shared Major (B.A.)
Students who wish to pursue a shared major in Economics for the B.A. degree must accumulate at least 28 MCs from EC modules which must include the following:
1. EC1101E (Introduction to Economic Analysis) OR
EC1301 (Principle of Economics)
2. EC2101 (Microeconomic Analysis I)
3. EC2102 (Macroeconomic Analysis I)
4. Either EC3101 (Microeconomic Analysis II) or EC3102 (Macroeconomic
Analysis II)
5. EC2303 (Foundations for Econometrics) (see Note 1)
6. At least 28.5% of the total MC for EC modules must be from level-
3000 EC modules (including EC3101 or EC3102)
Second Major
Students who wish to pursue a second major in Economics must accumulate at least 48 MCs from EC or EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme, which must include the following:
Read and pass the following modules:
1. EC1101E Introduction to Economic Analysis Analysis OR
EC1301 Principle of Economics
2. EC2101 Microeconomic Analysis I
3. EC2102 Macroeconomic Analysis I
4. EC2303 Foundations for Econometrics (See Note 1)
5. EC3101 Microeconomic Analysis II
6. EC3102 Macroeconomic Analysis II and
7. EC3303 Econometrics I (See Note 2)
8. Read and pass a minimum of 20 MCs of level-3000 or higher EC
modules (including EC3101/EC3151, EC3102/EC3152 and EC3303/EC3231)
9. Maximum 8 MC of EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme
Single Major (B.A.)
Students who wish to major in Economics for the B.A. degree must accumulate at least 56 MCs from EC or EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme, which must include the following:
Read and pass the following modules:
1. EC1101E Introduction to Economic Analysis OR
EC1301 Principle of Economics
2. EC2101 Microeconomic Analysis I
3. EC2102 Macroeconomic Analysis I
4. EC2303 Foundations for Econometrics (see Note 1)
5. EC3101 Microeconomic Analysis II
6. EC3102 Macroeconomic Analysis II and
7. EC3303 Econometrics I (see Note 2)
8. Read at least 5 level 3000 EC or higher level EC modules (including EC3101/EC3151,
EC3102/EC3152 and EC3303/EC3231)

Maximum 8 MC of EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme
Single Major [B.Soc.Sci.(Hons)]
Students who wish to major in Economics for the [B.Soc.Sci.(Hons)] degree must accumulate at least 84 MCs from EC or EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme, which must include the following:
1. EC1101E (Introduction to Economic Analysis) OR
EC1301 Principle of Economics
2. EC2101 (Microeconomic Analysis I)
3. EC2102 (Macroeconomic Analysis I)
4. EC3101 (Microeconomic Analysis II)
5. EC3102 (Macroeconomic Analysis II)
6. EC3304 (Econometrics II)
7. EC4101 (Microeconomic Analysis III)
8. EC4102 (Macroeconomic Analysis III)
9. EC2303 (Foundations for Econometrics) (see Note 1)
10.EC3303 (Econometrics I) (see Note 2)
11.Read and pass minimum 7 modules of level 4000 EC modules or higher which including EC4101 and EC4102 (with at least 28 MCs)
12.Maximum 12 MC of EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme
13.A maximum of 2 level 5000 EC modules (subject to the department’s approval)
Note 1:Students who have passed any ST module or MA2216 are not required to read EC2303.
Note 2:Students who have passed ST3131 are not required to read EC3303.
EC-recognised modules for MAJOR Programme
Note: These modules are NOT applicable to students pursuing the Minor Programme
The following Mathematics and Statistics modules are recognised as fulfilling the requirements of the Economics major (subject to a maximum of 8 MC for the Second Major and Single Major (B.A.); or 12 MC for the Honours programme) with effect from cohort AY2006-07.

Please note that ST1131 is a preclusion to EC2303. Therefore, ST1131 and EC2303 cannot be counted as two 4-MC modules for the fulfillment of the Economics major requirements.
