Single Major B.A. in English Literature (Cohort 2016 onwards)

Graduation Requirements

To major in English Literature, students need to:

  1. Pass EN1101E An Introduction to Literary Studies. This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements.
  2. Pass at least 44 MCs of EN or EN-recognised modules which include the following:
    (1)  A minimum of 4 MCs from the following:
          (i)   EN2201 Backgrounds to Western Literature and Culture
          (ii)  EN2202 Critical Reading
          (iii) EN2203 Introduction to Film Studies
          (iv) EN2204 Reading the Horror Film
          (v)  EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
          (vi) EN2207 Gender and Sexuality in Literature
    (2)  A minimum of 16 MCs British Literature modules, with at least 8 MCs from British Literature (before 1800)
    (3)  A minimum of 24 MCs at level 3000 or higher

Graduation Requirements

Pass at least 60 MCs of EN or EN-recognised modules, which include:

  1. EN1101E An Introduction to Literary Studies
  2. Only ONE of the following modules:
    EN2111 Reading British/World Texts, or
    EN2112 Reading American Texts, or
    EN2113 Reading Film and Cultural Texts

    Students from Cohort 2011 and before who have not yet taken EN2111, EN2112, or EN2113 are required to take at least 4 MCs from the following:
    EN2201 Backgrounds to Western Literature and Culture
    EN2202 Critical Reading
    EN2203 Introduction to Film Studies
    EN2204 Reading the Horror Film
    EN2205 Late Medieval Literature and Culture
    EN2207 Gender and Sexuality in Literature

    Students who have already taken EN2111, EN2112, or EN2113 can now access all available level 2000 EN modules so long as graduation requirements are met.
