Accommodation

As the conference will take place in the Shangri La Tanjung Aru Resort we encourage delegates to stay at the hotel and have negotiated special rates. As the pricing structure is based on rooms, it is possible for delegates to arrange room share or to consider bringing family. Staying at the conference hotel will also be more convenient for accessing the conference activities and using the facilities. However, there is a range of other accommodation options available in KK, ranging from backpacker hostels through to 5 star hotels.

Family Matters

As the island of Borneo is such a fascinating destination, delegates may wish to consider combining the conference with a family holiday. The hotel policy will allow two children (under 12) to stay in the same room for free and there is a well-equipped kids club*. A number of tour companies operate out of Kota Kinabalu offering a range of one-day to one-week tours, such as visits to the Sepilok Orang Utan sanctuary, safaris on the Kinabangan River, turtle watching, diving and snorkelling. If there is sufficient demand the conference organisers may be able to negotiate discounts on tour packages for delegates.

We do not intend to arrange a special programme for accompanying partners. However, there is a full range of recreational and leisure activities available at the hotel and a range of one day tours that can be taken from Kota Kinabalu. It will also be possible to purchase additional tickets for receptions and the conference dinner for guests.

* Charges apply to extra beds in the room. The kids club is free but a few special activities are chargeable.
