The 2007 IAG-AIG Regional Conference focuses on geomorphic challenges in low latitudes. Tropical Asia Pacific is of critical importance to global environmental change. The region is undergoing rapid development, land cover transformation and urbanisation. Against this backdrop of rapid transformation, geomorphology can make contributions in many different ways. What role can geomorphologist play in establishing the impact of environmental change on the operation of earth surface processes? How can the sensitivity of geomorphic systems be conceptualised and predicted in order to formulate sustainable resource management? What contribution can geomorphology make towards sound management in extractive industries and towards improving techniques of restoration? How does an understanding of geomorphological conditions assist in the recognition of environmental hazard? How can the valuable lessons of geomorphology be communicated to a wider audience?
