Associate Professor David Higgitt is an Executive Committee member of the International Association of Geomorphologists and of the Asia and Oceania Geosciences Society.

He is Editor of the Journal of Geography in Higher Education, editorial board member of Geography Compass and the Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography.

He is also the Coordinator of the Research Cluster on Tropical Environmental Change. His research is focused on sediment delivery processes – the temporal and spatial dynamics of sediment production and transfer. This work encompasses three related themes of soil erosion assessment and land degradation, construction of sediment budgets and the interactions between erosion processes and surface characteristics.

Within the Department, he is chair of the Research Strategy Sub-Committee and member of the Graduate Student Committee. David is coordinator of the Tropical Environments Research Group; GeoLab, and Safety Committee. He is also a faculty in charge of the Laboratory/Departmental Equipment and the overall coordinator of the Honours Year Advisors.
