The Analysis Abou the Change of Land Use in Kunming City Based on Landscape Ecology and 3D-GIS

The aim of this research is to model and predict the process of urbanization using SLEUTH model, Geographical Information System (GIS) and remote sensing (RS).

A series of RS techniques are employed to process and interpret the satellite images. GIS is used in data conversion, extracting slope information from DEM, and calculating different landscape metrics to evaluate the spatial complexity and dynamics of urban growth. In addition, results, such as the trend of land use/cover change, can be explicitly displayed using GIS.

The SLEUTH model combined with the GIS and RS techniques provide a fruitful direction to improve understanding and representing the process of urbanization that will be useful for policy makers and land managers toward sustainable resource management.
