The Development and Clustering of the Creative Industry in Urban China

The creative industry has become one of the important headsprings of economic growth in the West and it is also an increasing strategic focus for Asian cities. After undergoing industrialization, modernization and globalization, urban China has seen rapid urbanization with a flourish of new economies simultaneously. The creative industry is an emerging one that exhibits, to some extent, evidence of clustering in China. Will the creative industry create a new miracle and how will its development be shaped by the distinctiveness of Chinese culture and its transitional urban process? How will the global production network of creative industry embed itself into China and how will it reshape China? These are the significant issues of my research. This study explicates the development patterns and mechanisms of the creative industry in urban China, focusing on the transformation of spatial structures, the applicability of cluster theory on the creative industry and the role of globalization. Methodologically, this will be achieved through spatial analysis, case study approach and agglomeration modelling.

Research Interest: Global Economy, Creativeness Industry, Cluster.
