Graduates with a good Honours degree in Geography may apply to register for a Masters degree (M.Soc.Sci.) and, where suitable, for a Ph.D. degree. While each of these postgraduate degrees may be completed here, the University also has a scheme for sending scholars to prestigious overseas universities to complete their postgraduate studies.

In the 2008/09 academic year, we have four Ph.D. students graduated. They are Ms Sarah Moser, Ms Zhang Shurong, Ms Tumiar Katarina Manik and Mr Lee Wan Aik, Desmond.

Their theses were respectively entitled: Performing National Identity in Postcolonial Indonesia; Sediment and Carbon Transport in the Pear River, China;

Hydrological Consequences of Converting Forested Land to Coffee Plantations and other Agriculture Crops in Sumber Jaya Watershed, West Lampung, Indonesia; and Sediment Response to Tropical Storms in Singapore's Residential Catchments.

In additions, the following three graduates students were conferred their Masters degree. They are Mr Brian Tan, Mr Teo Choon Hon and Mr Daryl Lam . Their theses were respectively entitled People and Places in the Migration - Left Behind Nexus of the Lahu in Northern Thailand; The Spatial and Economic Impacts of Low Cost Carriers on the Singapore Air Transport Landscape; and An Analysis of Sediment Budgets in Inter-tidal River Mouth.

A wide range of topics are currently being researched by Ph.D. and Masters candidates in the Department.
