Graduates
with a good Honours degree in Geography may apply to register
for a Masters degree (M.Soc.Sci.) and, where suitable, for a
Ph.D. degree. While each of these postgraduate degrees may be
completed here, the University also has a scheme for sending
scholars to prestigious overseas universities to complete their
postgraduate studies.
In the 2008/09 academic year, we have four Ph.D. students
graduated. They are Ms Sarah Moser, Ms Zhang Shurong,
Ms Tumiar Katarina Manik and Mr Lee Wan
Aik, Desmond.
Their theses were respectively
entitled: Performing National Identity in Postcolonial
Indonesia; Sediment and Carbon Transport in the Pear
River, China;

Hydrological Consequences of Converting Forested Land to Coffee Plantations and other Agriculture Crops in Sumber Jaya Watershed, West Lampung, Indonesia; and Sediment Response to Tropical Storms in Singapore's Residential Catchments.
In additions, the
following three graduates students were conferred their Masters degree. They
are Mr Brian Tan, Mr Teo Choon Hon and Mr Daryl Lam . Their theses were respectively
entitled People and Places in the Migration - Left Behind Nexus of the Lahu in Northern Thailand; The Spatial and Economic Impacts of Low Cost Carriers on the Singapore Air Transport Landscape; and An Analysis of Sediment Budgets in Inter-tidal River Mouth.
A wide range of topics are currently
being researched by Ph.D. and Masters candidates in the Department.
