Collaborative Exchange PhD in Pathways to
Cosmopolitanism

Background

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for admission to a full-time PhD programme linking FASS, NUS, with the University of Manchester. This collaborative exchange PhD offers students the unique opportunity to benefit from the physical and human resources of the two universities, as well as to pursue research into cosmpolitanism at two world cities, each with its different cosmopolitan culture.

At least one research scholarship is available to support students enrolled in this programme. The PhD will be awarded by NUS.

Students may apply to any one department/programme in FASS (where supervision is available) and pursue research on a topic related to the Pathways to Cosmopolitanism (see here). Students accepted into the PhD programme may choose to be co-supervised by an appropriate academic staff member of the University of Manchester's Research Institute for Cosmopolitan Cultures (RICC), the Manchester Architecture Research centre (MARC), and/or the Centre for Chinese Studies (CCS). You may wish to view the profiles of staff working on Pathways to Cosmopolitanism at the following Manchester webpages:

Dr Liu Hong

Prof Simon Guy

Eligibility

Prospective students must be university graduates with at least a good Masters degree in a field relevant to the department/programme to which they seek admission. There is no restriction on the nationality of applicants. This scheme is also available to full-time students already registered, or with a guaranteed place, in an FASS PhD programme.

Students may spend up to a year of their research period under the supervision of a faculty member of the University of Manchester who is affiliated to research on Pathways to Cosmopolitanism.
