KYUSHU UNIVERSITY SUMMER PROGRAM

The Department has conducted the Toshiba International Foundation Grant for Japanese Language-Cultural Immersion Programme since 1999. It is made possible by the generosity of the Toshiba International Foundation in supporting our effort to promote international exchange and understanding between Japan and Singapore. 7 students were selected to participate in Kyushu University Summer Programme - Asia in Today's World (27 June to 5 August 2005). This summer programme provided students with a unique opportunity to study Japanese language, culture and society. They attended Japanese language classes and also courses on different aspects of Japan. In addition, the students participated in study trips to places of cultural, social and historical interest and significance. In order to provide a variety of living circumstances in Japan, two types of accommodation were arranged: off-campus aparment for the first 3 weeks and homestay for the remaining 3 weeks. This programme had provided the students with a better knowledge of Japanese culture and lifestyle. Their understanding of Japanese language has also improved significantly during the six-week stay in Japan.
