GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Check the graduation requirements for your cohort:

2007 Cohort and after
2005 and 2006 Cohorts

2007 Cohort and after

Single Major [B.A. (Hons.)]

Pass at least 100 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

JS1101E
JS2101
LAJ1201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2202 (or be waived from)
LAJ2203 (or be waived from)
LAJ3201 (or be waived from)
LAJ3202 (or be waived from)
JS4221
a minimum of 60 MCs at level-3000 or higher, with
i)  a minimum of 40 MCs at level-4000 or higher (including JS4221)
a maximum of 2 level-5000 JS modules (subject to department's approval)

Note:

To declare an Honours track, students must have completed 110 MCs, including 60 MCs in the Major, with a CAP of 3.5 and above.
To qualify for the Honours Thesis/Project (15 MCs), students must be on the Honours Track. In order to obtain First Class Honours, students must achieve a CAP of 4.5 or higher AND at least an 'A-' in the Honours Thesis/Project.
Students who do not attempt the Honours Thesis/Project will read level-4000 modules to fulfil the Honours Requirements.
Students who may also read a level-4000 Independent Studies Module (5 MCs). The level-4000 ISM carries a pre-requisite of 100 MCs completed, including 60 MCs in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.5. It precludes the Honours Thesis/Project.
All level-4000 modules carry a general pre-requisite of having completed 80 MCs, including 28 MCs in the Major, with a minimum CAP of 3.5 OR being on the Honours Track (some level-4000 modules may hae different pre-requisites).


Single Major (B.A.)


Pass at least 60 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

JS1101E

JS2101

LAJ1201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2202 (or be waived from)
LAJ2203 (or be waived from)
a minimum of 20 MCs of level-3000 or higher


Second Major
(for Cohort 2006 and after)

Pass at least 48 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

JS1101E

JS2101

LAJ1201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2202 (or be waived from)
a minimum of 16 MCs of level-3000 or higher


Minor
(for Cohort 2006 and after)

Pass at least 24 MCs of JS*/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

JS1101E
a mimimum of 4 MCs of Japanese lanaguage modules (LAJ), subjected to a maximum of 8 MCs
a minimum of 4 MCs of JS modules at level-3000

* For JS Minor, GEK2022 may be recognised as a JS mdoule
.


Note

LAJ1201, LAJ2201, LAJ2202, LAJ2203, LAJ3201, LAJ3202, LAJ3203, LAJ3204, LAJ4203 and LAJ4205 offered by the Centre for Language Studies count towards Japanese Studies graduation requirements.
JS-recognised modules include: GE3209, GE3219, HY2208 or HY3207, HY2227, HY2232, HY4880A, PS2238 and TS2232.
Students who waive LAJ modules should read higher level LAJ or JS or JS-recognised modules to make up for the minimum MCs required.

2005 and 2006 Cohorts

Shared Major - BA

Pass at least 28 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

JS1101E
JS2101
LAJ1201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2202 (or be waived from)
at least 1 JS humanities module
at least 1 JS social sciences module

Note:

For shared major students who wish to accumulate 28 MCs or 32 MCs in JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, there must be at least 2 level-3000 modules (8 MCs).
For shared major students who wish to accumulate 36 MC in JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, there must be at least 3 level-3000 modules (12 MCs).


Single Major - BA


Pass at least 56 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

JS1101E
JS2101
LAJ1201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2201 (or be waived from)
LAJ2202 (or be waived from)
LAJ2203 (or be waived from)
at least 2 JS humanities modules
at least 2 JS social sciences modules
a minimum of 20 MCs at level-3000 or higher


Single Major - BA (Hons)


Pass at least 84 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

a minimum of 44 MCs at level-300 or higher, with
i)  a minimum of 6 modules (with at least 24 MCs) at level-4000 or higher (including     JS4221)
a maximum of 2 level-5000 JS modules (subject to department's approval)


Note


LAJ1201, LAJ2201, LAJ2202, LAJ2203, LAJ3201, LAJ3202, LAJ3203, LAJ3204, LAJ4203 and LAJ4205 offered by the Centre for Language Studies count towards Japanese Studies graduation requirements.

Students who waive LAJ modules should read higher level LAJ or JS or JS-recognised modules to make up for the minimum MCs required.


2003 and 2004 Cohorts

Shared Major - BA

Pass at least 28 MCs of JS/JS-recognised/LAJ modules, which include the following:

Note:
