Major Requirements

The following major requirements apply to Cohort 2016 and after:

Single Major [B.A.(Hons)] | Single Major (B.A) | Second Major


Single Major [B.A. (Hons)]

To major in MS, students need to meet the following requirements:

1. Pass MS1102E. This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements.

2. Pass at least 84 MCs of MS modules or MS-recognised modules which include the following:

(a) MS4101
(b) a maximum of 27 MCs of MS-recognised modules, of which:

(i) a maximum of 15 MCs at level-4000

(ii) a maximum of ONE from the following:

(a) GE2225
(b) HY2241
(c) PS3257
(d) SC2101
(e) PH2110
(f) PH3201
(g) SC3101

3. Pass a minimum of 57 MCs of MS modules at level-2000 or higher, of which:

(i) a minimum of 12 MCs at level-2000
(ii) a minimum of 20 MCs at level-3000
(iii) a minimum of 25 MCs at level-4000 (including MS4101)

4. Pass a minimum of 40 MCs at level-4000 or higher
5. Pass a maximum of 4 MCs of level-5000 MS modules (subject to department's approval)



Single Major (B.A.)

To major in MS, students need to meet the following requirements:

1. Pass MS1102E. This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements.

2. Pass at least 44 MCs of MS modules or MS-recognised modules which include the following:

(i) a maximum of ONE from the following:

(a) GE2225
(b) HY2241
(c) PS3257
(d) SC2101
(e) PH2110
(f) PH3201
(g) SC3101

(ii) a minimum of 32 MCs of MS modules at level 2000 or higher, of which:

(a) a minimum of 12 MCs at level-2000
(b) a minimum of 20 MCs at level-3000



Second Major

To major in MS, students need to meet the following requirements:

1. Pass MS1102E. This will be counted towards the Faculty Core or UE requirements.

2. Pass at least 44 MCs of MS modules or MS-recognised modules which include the following:

(i) a maximum of 12 MCs of MS-recognised modules, of which:

(a) a maximum of ONE of the following:

(a) GE2225
(b) HY2241
(c) PS3257
(d) SC2101
(e) PH2110
(f) PH3201
(g) SC3101

(ii) a minimum of 32 MCs of MS modules at level 2000 or higher, of which:

(a) a minimum of 12 MCs at level-2000

(b) a minimum of 20 MCs at level-3000

The following major requirements apply to Cohort 2015 to 2007

Single Major [B.A.(Hons)] | Single Major (B.A) | Second Major


Single Major [B.A. (Hons)]

To major in MS, students need to meet the following requirements:

Pass at least 100 MCs of MS modules or MS-recognised modules which include the following:

(1) MS1101E or MS1102E
(2) MS4101

(3) a maximum of 31 MCs of MS-recognised modules, of which:

(i) a maximum of 15 MCs at level-4000

(ii) a maximum of ONE from the following:

(a) GE2225
(b) HY2241
(c) PS2102 or PS3257
(d) SC2101
(e) PH2110
(f) PH3201
(g) SC3101

(4) a minimum of 60 MCs of MS modules at level-2000 or higher, of which:

(i) a minimum of 40 MCs at level-3000 or higher, subject to
(a) a minimum of 20 MCs at level-4000 or higher (including MS4101)
(5) a maximum of 4 MCs of level-5000 MS modules (subject to department's approval)

(5) a minimum of 60 MCs at level-3000 or higher, with
(i)a minimum of 40MCs at level-4000 or higher



Single Major (B.A.)

To major in MS, students need to meet the following requirements:

Pass at least 60 MCs of MS or MS-recognised modules, which include the following:

(1) MS1101E or MS1102E

(2) a maximum of 16 MCs of MS-recognised modules of which:

(i) a maximum of ONE from the following:

(a) GE2225
(b) HY2241
(c) PS2102 or PS3257
(d) SC2101
(e) PH2110
(f) PH3201
(g) SC3101

(3) a minimum of 40 MCs of MS modules at level 2000 or higher, of which:

(a) a minimum of 20 MCs at level-3000 or higher



Second Major (B.A.)

To graduate with MS as a second major, students need to meet the following requirements:

Pass at least 48 MCs of MS or MS-recognised modules, which include the following:

(1) MS1101E or MS1102E

(2) a maximum of 12 MCs of MS-recognised modules

(3) a minimum of 16 MCs at level-3000

Note: Students are not allowed to read level-4000 modules.
