International Geographical Union Commission on ‘Population and Vulnerability’ –

Themed session:  Love and Mobility in the Time of Globalization

Date: 10-12 July 2007
Location: Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong

  • Themed Session in The 4th International Conference on Population Geographies.
  • Session Co-organizers: Prof Brenda Yeoh, and Elli Heikkilä (Institute of Migration, Finland).

This session focuses on the complexly multi-stranded relationship between the phenomenon of “love” and transnational mobilities. Love may be the raison d’etre for moving across national borders; at the same time, transnational migration may also enhance or attenuate the emotions associated with love, pave the way for its fulfilment, or undermine its foundations.
