FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is the purpose of reading the Religious Studies Minor?

The Religious Studies minor prepares students to better understand the role of religion in the modern world and to understand the similarities and differences between various religious traditions. There are numerous courses focusing specifically on the role of religion in South and Southeast Asian societies.

2. What are the career prospects after I take this minor?

The minor will assist students in a career in which they have to work with people or groups in a sensitive way: civil service, teaching, public relations, journalism, and business, especially.

3. When should I read the compulsory minor modules?

It would be good to take the two compulsory modules as soon as possible, but it is not essential to do so.

4. How should I go about reading the modules under the Religious Studies Minor especially with its different categories?

Choose according to your interests. The rule to keep in mind is that you can credit no more than two courses in each category toward the minor. This is to encourage students to study religion from the various angles of approach organized by the four categories. Also, students are advised to study more than one religion (i.e. you do not take ALL your electives in courses focusing on one religious such as Buddhism or Islam).
