Daiwa Japan Forum Prize for Best Research

Dr Simon Avenell has received the Daiwa Japan Forum Prize awarded by the British Association of Japanese Studies for best research article by a young scholar.

The winning article is titled "Regional Egoism as the Public Good: Residents' Movements in Japan during the 1960s and 1970s" and it explores the development of environmental protection movements and civil society in Japan.  It forms part of a larger project on civil society in Japan over the past half century.

The prize winner is invited to the United Kingdom as a sponsored guest of the British Association of Japanese Studies and the Daiwa Foundation.  Together with an award ceremony, the prize winner conducts a lecture tour throughout the UK including Oxford, Sheffield, Cardiff, and London Universities.
