Major universities abroad are interested in collaborating with the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences to enrich their curriculum. They regard the NUS as a centre of excellence where their students can learn about society and culture, especially the specific conditions found in Southeast Asia.
Our office administers short term study abroad programmes for selected partner Universities. We conduct a Singapore Summer Immersion Programme for students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during their summer vacation, and a similar programme for students from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign during their winter. Students enrol in class-room lessons conducted by NUS lecturers and a professor from their own University. Field trips to cultural and historical sites as well as governmental organisations are organised by a NUS student assistant who is employed by the partner University to serve as a guide and helper for the students and professor. By all accounts, the programmes have been very successful.
