UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL (UNCCH)

Singapore Summer Immersion Programme (SSIP)

The Singapore Summer Immersion Programme (SSIP) started in 2003 and has been running successfully since.  The sixth SSIP - A 7-week programme to introduce the UNCCH students to the Southeast Asian Culture and History - began on this year on June 29th.

Consisting of class-room lessons at NUS, field trips to the different cultural sites, tourist attractions and ministries in Singapore, and overnight trips to Malaysia, the programme ended with a week in Bangkok, Thailand.  The lessons at NUS were conducted by UNCCH lecturers: Associate Professors Andrew Stephen and Elana Mosley who were the Resident Directors for the SSIP and a team of NUS lecturers whose specialities were in Singapore: Dr Quek Ser Hwee, Malaysia and Thailand: Associate Professor Bruce Lockhart.

Planning for the next round in summer 2009 will begin soon and the Faculty looks forward to hosting another Summer Immersion Programme for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
