Cohort 2003 to 2006

Requirements for B.A.

Pass at least 56MC of EU, EU-recognised and French or German language modules which include the following:

 

EU1101E Making of Contemporary Europe

 

A minimum of 16 MCs of French or German language, subject to a maximum of 24 MCs.  (Additional language modules cannot be used to fulfil EU requirements)

 

A minimum of 20 MCs at level 3000 or higher level EU or EU-recognised modules (including French or German language modules).

Requirements for B.A. (Hons)

Pass at least 84 MCs of EU, EU-recognised and French/German language modules which include the following:

 

EU1101E Making of Contemporary Europe

 

A minimum of 20 MCs of French or German language (which include at least 1 level 4000 French or German language module), subject to a maximum of 36 MCs.

 

A minimum of 44 MCs at level 3000 or higher (including French or German language modules), with a minimum of 6 modules (with at least 24 MCs) at level 4000 or higher. 

 
Students may be allowed, in lieu of their level 4000 modules, a maximum of 2 level 5000 modules (subject to EU and the host department's approval and module pre-requisites, if any), to fulfill graduation requirements.

Notes: Language Modules

 

1.

Students who received any exemptions for their language requirements will have to read a level 4000 EU or EU-recognised non-language module(s) in place of the language module(s) for the honours requirement.  Note that students may only use modules from one language to fulfil EU requirements i.e. either French or German only.

 

2.

Students who have prior knowledge of French or German will be allowed to enroll for higher level language modules.  Placement tests will determine the appropriate starting level for such students.  Exemptions of 4 to 8 MCs can be awarded under the following circumstances:

 

 

Exemption of 4 MCs
Students who qualify for LA4202FR/LAF4202 or LA4202GR/LAG4202 will be granted an exemption of 4 MCs.  They will be required to read only 3 language modules:

French Language

German Language

LA4202FR / LAF4202

LA4202GR / LAG4202

LA4203FR / LAF4203

LA4203GR / LAG420

LA4204FR / LAF4204

LA4204GR / LAG4204

 

 


Exemption of 8 MCs

Students who qualify for LA4203FR/LAF4203 or LA4203GR/LAG4203 will be granted an exemption of 8 MCs.  They will be required to read only 2 language modules:

French Language

German Language

LA4203FR / LAF4203

LA4203GR / LAG4203

LA4204FR / LAF4204

LA4204GR / LAG4204

 

 

Notes: Honours

 

3.

Students who read the EU Honours Thesis that is worth 15 MCs will have to read and pass at least three other level 4000 EU or EU-recognised modules, of which at least one must be a language module in French or German.  Students are also to follow all the honours thesis requirements of the department in charge.
