FASS introduced a new group of modules in AY2008/2009 Semester 2. Called Freshman Seminar, these modules will each enroll only 15 students and will give students a lot of space to approach the module's topic, and those topics will also be different from the normal run.
The Freshman Seminar offers opportunities for incoming students to work closely with members of the faculty on a variety of selected topics, differing according to the expertise and interests of the seminar leader. The seminar involves participation in weekly discussions, writing papers, and making individual presentations. Besides being exposed to a particular cross-disciplinary issue, students will have ample opportunities to further develop their written and oral communication skills. The emphasis will be on one-to-one student-teacher contact, and nurturing the students' development as creative and skilled individuals. Assessment will vary topic to topic.
