With
regards to the SS modules, for GER candidates they
are only required to fulfil one SS module throughout
his candidature, therefore why is there a distinction
in the modules by level? Does that mean that if
we did not complete the level 1000 module, we are
not allowed to take the level 2000 module or does
it mean that the first year students can only attempt
level 1000 modules SS modules?
|
| |
As
Singapore Studies modules are cross-listed with
modules offered by various departments they have
to be pegged at the same level as the respective
modules. Students may attempt any module they wish
for Singapore Studies.
|
| 2. |
If
we are allowed to pursue more than one SS module,
can it be used to fulfill the University Level Requirement?
|
| |
You
only require one SS module to fulfill your graduation
requirements, any extra SS modules read will not
be counted towards your graduation requirements.
You can read them for enrichment purpose. Note that
all grades obtained would be factored into your
CAP unless you opt for the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory
option.

I
am a 3rd year student and very keen to do a Singapore
Studies module as my elective. Can I register for
the module?
|
| |
Singapore
Studies modules are only open to students from the
2001 cohort onwards.

I
would like to know if I am allowed to take a SS
module, which is cross-listed with my exposure module
or major?
|
| |
The
SS module that you read may be cross-listed as an
exposure module. However, you may only read the
module once, i.e. only as an exposure module or
as a SS module. The SS module must be outside of
your major.
|
| 5. |
Is
it alright to take an SS module that is cross-listed
with my intended major?
|
| |
The
SS module should be outside of your major.
|
| 6. |
I
have just dropped my SS module, is there a guarantee
that I’ll be offered one from the list?
|
| |
The
allocation of modules are based on the bid points
placed for the modules. If you dropped the module
offered to you, there is no guarantee that you would
be successful in the next bidding.
However, you should not delay too
long in taking your SS module as the longer you
wait, the keener the competition for the limited
number of places available.

I
am unclear over the pass/fail options on CFM/GEM/SSM.
|
| |
Student
can declare 12 MCs as Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory
(taking into account the limits specified in the
case of students registered in Student Exchange
programmes) in any modules except those being counted
towards programme, that is, faculty and major requirements..

May
I major in Singapore Studies?
|
| |
No,
Singapore Studies is not offered as a major.
|
| 9. |
May
I read a stand alone Singapore Studies module that
is offered by my major?
|
| |
Yes,
you may. As long as the module is not cross-listed
with a module code from your major(s), you may read
the module to fulfill your Singapore Studies requirement.
|
| 10. |
When
should I opt to read a SS module?
|
| |
Do
it as soon as possible; don't wait till your final
year before deciding to fulfill your SS requirement.
|
| 11. |
I
would like to find out if the modules have any project
work. Where can I get the related information?
|
| |
You
will need to consult the lecturers teaching the
modules or check out the IVLE website at http://ivle.nus.edu.sg.
Given
that there is a CA component, every module is
likely to have either a mid-term test or essay
or project or some combination of these.

I
am a year 2 student from science faculty. I have
taken GEM1008K as GEM under group B in my 1st
semester of year 1. After I have taken this module
as GEM, I found that it could be taken as Singapore
Studies too. By the time I discover this, it was
already too late for me to drop this module and
take it as Singapore Studies. I sincerely hope
that you can do me a favor by allowing me to convert
this GEM to Singapore Studies.

As
you are a student from Science Faculty, please proceed
to your faculty’s Dean’s Office for advice and procedures
with regards to the conversion of module codes.
