Description

Are you just a bunch of atoms, or does the fact that you are a feeling, thinking thing show that there is more to you than that? In what sense are you the same person today as you were when you were an infant, or as you will be when you are a grandparent? What, if anything, can reflection on the introspectible qualities of your own conscious experience tell you about the broader world in which you live? The purpose of this module is to acquaint you with the main ideas and arguments that have been put forth in an attempt to answer these and related questions.

Assessment

Periodic short writing assignments: 30%
Term paper: 30%
Final exam (closed book): 40%
