Applicants for the M.A. degree should (preferably) have a good honors degree in Philosophy from NUS or a recognized foreign university. For cohorts 2004 onwards, the program involves reading four coursework modules and writing a thesis (of up to forty thousand words) on a topic approved of by the department. A candidate may also be required to attend lectures directly related to his or her research. In certain cases, proof of proficiency in a second language is required. The period of candidature is between one year to three years.
