Philosophy Minor

Requirements| Modules suggestion suggested sub-areas |

Cohort 2006 onwards only

For those who major in other disciplines, whether in the sciences or the arts, a minor in philosophy would broaden their intellectual horizons as well as cultivate a deeper self-reflective attitude towards their own and other disciplines. Undergraduates may also do a few philosophy modules which do not lead to a degree. Levels 1000 to 3000 modules are accessible to non-Philosophy students (note that some modules may have pre-requisites), but advanced level 4000 modules are generally accessible only to Philosophy majors.

Requirements for minor in Philosophy:

Pass at least 24 MCs of PH modules, which include
1. PH1101E Reason and Persuasion; and
2. A minimum of 4 MCs at level-3000.

A maximum of 8 MCs from the minor can be used to satisfy the requirements of a major or another minor.

Suggestion for choosing Philosophy Modules

A philosophy major should have a broad understanding that comes from taking modules in the the different sub-areas in Philosophy listed below, and then proceed to explore one or two sub-areas s/he finds most interesting. This is only a suggestion, NOT a requirement. Modules within each sub-area tend to be interrelated in ways that allow students to both deepen and broaden their interest and learning in more meaningful ways. The modules listed here are not the complete list of the department’s modules and not every module is offered every semester.
