President's Graduate Fellowship
The President's Graduate Fellowship (PGF) is the University's most prestigious scholarship scheme for full-time PhD students after the Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarship.
Applicants should be university graduates with at least second class honours (upper division) degree or equivalent and at the time of the award of the PGF, must have applied for and been assured of admission as a full-time candidate for PhD studies at this University. They must also show exceptional promise or accomplishment in research. There is no restriction on the nationality of applicants. Applicants from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and/or Singapore Management University should submit a referee's report from the supervisor of their Final Year Project or main supervisor of their Final Year Project or main supervisor of their current candidature.
The PGF is initially awarded for one year. It may be renewed annually on the basis of the scholar's performance in the previous semesters and the recommendation of the Faculty. The maximum period of a scholarship is four years.
The PGF will carry a monthly stipend of S$2,200 plus full tuition/research fee subsidy, i.e., the scholar's tuition/research fee will be paid for by the University. As there is a local Incentive Top-up Scheme for Singaporean PhD Scholars who are awarded the PGF, Singaporean PhD students will receive an additional S$500 per month which amounts to a monthly stipend of S$2,700. No travel or other allowances are provided. PhD Research Scholars who pass their PhD Qualfying Examination during their candidature are eligible for an additional top-up of S$500 per month for a specific period.
PGF recipients may be required by the Head of Department/Programme concerned to assist in teaching or department work. Recipients must be in Singapore during the duration of the fellowship except during periods of approved leave. The University does not provide additional assistance towards travel or other costs nor does it guarantee employment to the scholar on the successful completion of the programme.
