The International Studies Review (ISR) is a journal of the International Studies Association. It provides a window on current trends and research in international studies worldwide. Published four times a year, ISR is intended to help: (a) scholars engage in the kind of dialogue and debate that will shape the field of international studies in the future, (b) graduate and undergraduate students understand major issues in international studies and identify promising opportunities for research, and (c) educators keep up with new ideas and research.

To achieve these objectives, ISR publishes analytical essays, forums, review essays, and book reviews.

  1. Analytical Essays integrate scholarship, clarify debates, provide new perspectives on research, identify new directions for the field, and present insights into scholarship in various parts of the world.

  2. The Forum provides an outlet for debates over concepts, theories, methods, and the state of current research as well as reactions to pieces published in ISR.

  3. Review Essays are fully peer reviewed analyses of two or more recently published books on a given theme or topic.

  4. Book Reviews focus on books published within the past year that contribute conceptually and empirically to international studies. The books reviewed are from across the globe.

ISR also publishes an annual special issue edited by the outgoing ISA President. Past issues of the Presidential Series can be purchased separately. Please visit the book series page on Wiley’s website for more information (see Links). ISR is based at the National University of Singapore, Department of Political Science, from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2017.
