Brief Programme Requirements
Duration of Candidature
The Master of Psychology (Clinical) and joint-degree NUS-University of Melbourne Master of Psychology (Clinical) programmes are offered only on a full-time basis. The rest of the coursework programmes are available on both full-time and part-time basis. Only those resident in Singapore are eligible for part-time study.

Curricular Requirement
Master of Psychology (Clinical)
Students will require 14 modules (64 MCs) for graduation. This will comprise both coursework (26 MCs; 41% of the credit requirements), practical training (16 MCs; 25% of the credit requirements) and research (22 MCs; 34% of the credit requirements). The grades of all 14 modules will be considered in assessing whether the student has met the degree requirement. The minimum CAP for fulfilment of the degree requirement is 3.00.
NUS-University of Melbourne Master of Psychology (Clinical) - Joint Degree
Students will require 14 modules (64 MCs) for graduation. During the first year, students will complete seven core modules at UM. In the second year, students will complete the remaining three modules (including one thesis module) and four clinical placements in Singapore. Full details of the requirements can be found in the programme website. This will comprise both coursework (26 MCs; 41 % of the credit requirements), practical training (16 MCs; 25% of the credit requirements) and research (22 MCs; 34% of the credit requirements). Other Masters Programmes by Coursework
Masters candidates are required to take at least ten modules. At least 75% of the total modular credit (MC) requirements must be at level 5000 or 6000. Up to 25% of the total MC requirements may be at level 4000. A candidate may offer more than the minimum necessary number of modules but assessment of whether the candidate has met the degree requirements will be based upon the best ten modules, except for module(s) for which the candidate received a ‘Fail’ grade. In some programmes, a practicum/project may be required. Candidates must pass the practicum/project (where applicable) as well as attain a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.00.
Graduate Diploma in Social Work
Graduate Diploma in Social Work candidates are required to take no fewer than five modules and a practicum that is equivalent to one module. Candidates must pass the practicum as well as attain a CAP of 2.25.
Diagnostic English Test
All successful applicants are required to take the Diagnostic English Test. They will be placed on a graduate English module or be exempted from the module, depending on their performance in the proficiency test. A Masters student is required to achieve an intermediate level of proficiency (at least grade C) in the English modules.

Continuation Requirement
Masters
To continue in a Masters progamme, a student must not have:

CAP, i.e., Cumulative Average Point, below 3.0 (but ≥ 2.5) for three consecutive semesters; or
-
CAP below 2.5 for two consecutive semesters.
For any semester in which the student’s CAP falls below 3.0 (but ≥ 2.5), that student will be issued an academic warning. If, in the following semester, the student’s CAP again falls below 3.0, he/she will be placed on probation. If the student’s CAP remains below 3.0 for the third consecutive semester, the student will be issued a letter of dismissal and denied re-admission.
For students whose CAP fall below 2.5 for two consecutive semesters, they will be placed on probation for the first semester, followed by dismissal in the second semester.
In addition, a candidate for the Master of Psychology (Clinical) or joint NUS-University of Melbourne Master of Psychology (Clinical) programme who receives a failing grade for any clinical placement will need to repeat a placement of a similar nature. Students who receive two failing grades for the same placement, or any two clinical placements, will be discontinued from the programme regardless of CAP. Students who are unable to pass the Professional Competency Examination after two attempts and are thus unable to proceed to their final placements will also be discontinued from these programmes. All students of these programmes are also required to pass every NUS module with at least a B- grade. Students who fail to achieve this will have to retake such modules and bear the full tuition costs while they repeat the modules for which they did not attain a minimum satisfactory (B-) grade. Students who do not attain the minimum grade will only be allowed to repeat the module once.

NUS-University of Melbourne Master of Psychology (Clinical) Programme

Students must take and pass all 14 modules, but may read more than the minimum number of modular credits. The grades of all 14 modules will be considered in assessing whether the student has met the degree requirement.

Students must achieve a grade of 70% or higher for all modules taken at the University of Melbourne and a Cumulative Average Point of 3.00 for all modules taken at NUS comprising the degree.

Obtain at least a B- for each NUS module

For NUS modules, a student’s CAP must not fall below 2.50 for two consecutive semesters or 3.00 for three consecutive semesters. A student who fails to maintain the minimum CAP as stipulated will have her/his candidature terminated. For any semester in which the student’s CAP falls below 3.00, she/he will be issued a warning. If, in the following semester, the student’s CAP again falls below 3.00, but above 2.50, she/he will be placed on probation.

A candidate will be recommended for award of degree once he/she has met the requirements stated above. A candidate may read more than the minimum necessary modules (comprising all required modules within the curricular requirements and in the subject/related disciplines). Generally, only the grades for the minimum necessary modules shall be considered in assessing whether the student has met the degree requirement.
