Undergraduate Degrees

FASS students suffer no lack of choices for their academic needs. Graduates from the Faculty will graduate with:

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  • Bachelor of Arts with Honours (BA (Hons))
  • Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours (BSocSci (Hons))

If students have done a Double Degree Programme (DDP), they will graduate with degrees from FASS and the other institution.

Majority of FASS students will focus on obtaining a BA, BA (Hons) or BSocSci (Hons) and even within the single degree structure, students will have the option of doing:

Single Major
Students reading a single major will choose to specialise in one discipline or subject. To graduate with a BA (Hons) or BSocSci (Hons) degree, FASS students must have accumulated 160 Modular Credits (MCs) and attained a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.20. Students who choose not to or do not complete the honours requirements may graduate with a BA degree, after accumulating 120 MCs at a CAP of 2.00 or above.

Major / Minor
Students can also choose to complement their major subject by taking on another subject, which they develop their minor in. In addition to the 19 disciplinary subjects that the Faculty offers, students can also choose one of the multidisciplinary minors offered.

Double Major
Double majors are conceived as an opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and capacities with a significant degree of depth by pursing a second major alongside their primary major. All FASS subjects are available as second major for students. Students may also choose to read second majors from another faculty/school. For students pursuing an Honours degree, the first major will be considered the Honours subject.
