Dr. Syed Muhd Khairudin Aljunied

Dr. Elaine Ho, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, has been awarded the Progress in Human Geography Essay Prize 2012 for her paper on 'Claiming the diaspora: Elite mobility, sending state strategies and the spatialities of citizenship'. Associate Professor Peter Borshcberg (Department of History) has won the Faculty's Award for Excellent Researcher (AER) 2011. The award was announced in February 2012. Professor Jean Yeung’s seminal paper, ‘Children's Time with Fathers in Intact Families’ has been recognised as the fifth-most highly cited article of the decade (2001-2010) in the Journal of Marriage and Family (JMF). We caught up with Prof Yeung (Department of Sociology) to hear more about this particularly influential paper and to discuss her current research, which covers important family/life issues. Associate Professor Huang Jianli, Department of History, is the 2011 Lee Kong Chian NUS-Stanford Distinguished Fellow on Southeast Asia. The Fellowship provides an expert on the region the opportunity to travel, write, and conduct their research in residence both at NUS and at Stanford University. What makes this year’s fellow so interesting is that Prof Huang’s research topic is actually Lee Kong Chian himself, the benefactor of the fellowship. Dr Choo Hyekyung, Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work, together with her collaborators, received a Silver Award for Best Publication 2010 based on the article “Pathological VideoGaming among Singaporean Youth”, published in Annals, Academy of Medicine, Singapore (AAMS). Professor George Bishop, Head of the Department of Psychology received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Psychology in Singapore from the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) in recognition of his contributions to the development of Psychology in Singapore as well as the Singapore Psychological Society.
