Please refer to the Faculty's website for more information on requirements to complete the graduate programme. The Sociology postgraduate
programme abides by most of the guidelines described in the Faculty's website. However, the information listed below is specific to students of our Department, in relation to coursework requirements:
For Students Prior to the August 2010 Intake:

Masters students must read and pass a minimum of 4 modules
- PhD students must read and pass a minimum of 6 modules
- Compuslory modules are SC6102 and SC6770
For Students From the August 2010 and August 2011 Intakes:
- Masters students must read and pass a minimum of 5 modules
- PhD students must read and pass a minimum of 8 modules
- Compulsory modules are SC5101, SC5102*, SC5103*, SC6102 and SC6770 (SC5770 for Masters only)
- Compulsory seminar attendance (plus job talk for PhD students)
For Students From the August 2012 Intake Onwards:
- No change to Masters students' coursework component
- PhD students must read and pass a minimum of 12 modules
- Compulsory modules are SC5101, SC5102*, SC5103*, SC6102 and SC6770 (SC5770 for Masters only)
- Compulsory seminar attendance (plus job talk for PhD students)
*Masters students have a choice between SC5102 and SC5103.
