The Sociology Society represents the student body of the Department of Sociology. The commitee members are elected at the beginning of each academic year during the Annual General Meeting. Ordinary membership is open to all matriculated students at a membership fee of two dollars. Funds for the society are largely obtained from the sale of lecture/tutorial readings, and are used for the various activities organized by the society.

The academic year begins in early August with a Freshman Orientation Camp. The aim of this camp is to raise students' interest in the study of Sociology and to identify potential student leaders for the Sociology Society. Members are also recruited at the society's stall during the Matriculation Maze.

Every year, there is a 'Welcome Tea' that is followed by the Annual General Meeting where new committee members are elected. The hand-over to the new committee takes place during the Annual Departmental tea. This is where the present and former committee members have a chance to get acquainted with the lecturers. Throughout the year, the Sociology Society organizes various other activities including trips, bazaars, modular seminars and the bi-annual 'Sale of Readings' with the aim of fostering closer ties between the student body and the Department. The Sociology Society also takes an active part in faculty activities such as the Annual Inter-Society Games and NUS Open House cum Exhibition at the Department of Sociology.

The current committee is helping the Department to establish an Alumnus for the Sociology Society. The committee hopes to attract not only new members to the committee but to create a sense of belonging for previous members of the society as well. As always, the Sociology Society hopes to establish closer ties between the Department and its past, present and future members.
