Sociology at NUS
Graduates of the Department are trained to analyse and critique the social dimension applicable to various aspects of individual and group behaviour in different social settings and contexts, be it the family, workplace, or nation-state. All Sociology students in the undergraduate programme take modules in Theory, Research Methods that includes computer applications in the social sciences, and several substantive areas (Stratification, Social Psychology, Family, Religion, Politics, Gender, Education, Population and Organisations). Students who read Sociology at honours level have the opportunity to take more specialised modules that give more in-depth understanding of the subject matter. The training provided by the department should serve graduates well as survey researchers, market analysts, programme evaluators, public relations specialists, journalists, administrators, or human resource practitioners, among others.
The Department also offers the Cultural Studies minor.
