Full Time Research Executive/Associate

We are seeking a passionate and capable full-time Research Executive/Associate at the Social Service Research Centre (SSR), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore. The appointment will be tenable for a period of 1 year at the first instance, with the possibility of renewal. As the only entity dedicated to research on social interventions in Singapore, SSR is the focal point of rigorous applied research, working in tandem with social service leaders in government, civil society, and private philanthropic institutions to critic, test-bed and facilitate large-scale, community-based service innovations through a variety of methods including programme evaluation and social analytics.

Job Description
Research Executive/Associate to Support Qualitative Research and Research Training Programs

Duties:
• Coordinate and execute primary research, such as the administration of qualitative forms of fieldwork, processes, and related tasks such as documentation of fieldwork materials and reports alongside data management.
• Assist in information search, such as literature review.
• Conduct fieldwork and qualitative data-collection, such as administering one-to-one interviews, facilitate focus group discussions, participatory observations and so on.
• Assist in qualitative data analysis and writing of research reports
• Coordinate with NUS and external working partners on research training activities and events, including publicity, logistics, monitoring the progress of training process and activities, coordinating with training participants, and so on.
• Other supportive duties related to qualitative research and SSR training programs.
• Other duties as assigned

Job requirements
• A Master’s degree in social sciences such as sociology, social work, geography, language studies. Those with a relevant social science Bachelor’s and a strong working experience on qualitative social research may also be considered.
• Working experience as research assistant, or has completed independent study module, either a Honour’s or Master’s thesis.
• Experience in conducting qualitative fieldwork.
• Excellent interviewing, facilitation and inter-personal communication skills, in both face-to-face and online communication. Must be able to conduct interviews in English and either Malay, Chinese or Tamil.
• Independent learner and self-motivated team-player.
• Excellent organisational and writing skills.
• Meticulous in ensuring the accuracy of data and information.

Research Executive for “Understanding Neighbourhood Experiences in HDB Estates”

Duties:
• Coordinate and execute primary research, such as the administration of qualitative forms of fieldwork, processes, and related tasks such as documentation of fieldwork materials and reports alongside data management.

• Assist in data analysis (including quantitative and/or qualitative analysis) and writing of research reports
• Coordinating with external working partners
• Support web-based research communication or organize research events
• Other duties as assigned

Job requirements
• A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences such as economics, psychology, social work, or sociology;
• Working experience as research assistant, or has completed independent study module, Honour’s thesis or Final Year Project during undergraduate studies.
• Experience in quantitative methods and the use of statistical software such as STATA, preferably with some basic programming knowledge;
• Independent learner and self-motivated team-player.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Duties:
• Assist library research, data analysis, and writing of research articles and briefs
• Manage and conduct participant recruitment and data collection
• Support liaison with data collection Application developer
• Write research briefs and reports
• Support web-based research communication or organize research events
• Other duties as assigned

Job requirements
• A Master’s degree from a recognized university in a Social Science, Social Policy, Program Evaluation or related discipline, or a few years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the above fields;
• An aptitude for and relevant training and experience for the stated job scope;
• Familiarity with Singapore’s social service sector;
• Independent learner and self-motivated team-player.
• Good organizational skills
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
