Filing for Graduation

Who should File for Graduation?

Students who intend to graduate at the end of a particular semester. ALL modules must be classified before the student files for graduation. Note that filing for graduation only indicates that the student intends to graduate at the end of the semester. Students are responsible for ensuring that they have met their graduation requirements.

How do I file for graduation?

FASS students do not FFG through CORS. There are two ways you can file for graduation (FFG). Either online through GAPS, or manually by submitting the form UF008 in person to the Dean’s Office.

1) Online FFG through GAPS
You may file for graduation through GAPS, as stipulated in the "List of Important Events". This exercise normally takes place at the beginning of the semester. This is the main method to FFG for FASS students.
If you have not decided between graduating or staying on for Honours, you should still FFG through GAPS, then submit the form UF008 to withdraw FFG if you change your mind later.

Note: If you are a DDP or JDP student, you are unable to FFG through GAPS and should indicate your intention to graduate through the administrator in charge of the DDP or JDP.

2) Manual FFG by submitting the form UF008

There are 3 situations where you would not FFG through GAPS, but would instead need to submit the form UF008.

a) Pending module allocation during the online FFG window (CORS appeal or SEP credit transfer)
b) Did not FFG during online window and decided to graduate after release of examination results
c) FFG’ed during online window and decided to not to graduate after release of examination results

For a), you may submit UF008 during the online FFG window. Please indicate on the form the module(s) that have not yet been reflected in GAPS.
For b) and c), you should submit the form within three days of the release of the examination results for that semester (e.g. if results were released on 28 May, you have until 30 May).

Submitting FFG form UF008 by email:
Students may submit the form UF008 via email by following these steps:

i) Print out and complete the form UF008
ii) Scan and email the form to fashelp@nus.edu.sg using the NUS email account. Subject line of the email should read “Submission of FFG form to FFG/withdraw FFG”

Please note that forms that have not been signed or forms submitted from non-NUS email accounts will not be accepted.Alternatively, students may submit the form to the Dean’s Office counter at AS7 level 5.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Should you fail to register your intention to graduate within these three days, you will only be allowed to file for graduation at the beginning of the next semester, and your degree will be conferred six months later than it should. If you did not withdraw your FFG within these three days, you will graduate and this status is irrevocable

Should I graduate with a BA or Honours?

If you are wondering whether to graduate with a BA degree or to try for an honours degree, you should consult the academic advisor of your major. You may also wish to use the average grade simulator to simulate the average grade you will need to achieve in order for you to graduate with your desired class of honours. This will tell you if it is possible to graduate with the class of honours you are aiming at. If you do not think you will be able to achieve the average grade necessary to qualify for that class, simulate the average grade for a lower class of honours and decide if you would be comfortable graduating with the lower class of honours, or if you would prefer to graduate with a BA or BA merit.

We also wish to caution you on the following points:
(a) If you decide to stay on to pursue the Honours Programme, but eventually change your mind and decide to withdraw from the Honours Programme, you are not allowed to do so in the middle of the semester. You have to still complete all the modules registered for that semester. The grade of all these excess modules will still be factored into your CAP.
(b) In the event that your CAP is between 3.20 and 3.49 after completing the Honours degree, you will be awarded the Third class Honours degree.  You are not allowed to change your degree to a BA degree (pass with merit).

Refer to http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/undergrad/toknow/academic_requirements/honours.html for more details

What should I do after I have filed for graduation?

Once you have filed for graduation, please check that your matriculation number appears in the "List of Student Who Have Filed for Graduation" in that particular semester.

If you have filed for graduation, but decide to continue with honours after the release of examination results, please submit your request to withdraw your file for graduation personally to the Dean's Office within 3 days of the release of examination results. If you have not filed for graduation, but have been placed on the Honours track, and decide to graduate with a BA degree, please indicate on the form that you wish to “file for Hons, willing to graduate with a BA degree". Once you are conferred the BA degree you may not return to do your honours.

Important Note

FASS students will be conferred only one degree - either a BA or an honours degree. The BA degree, once conferred, cannot be rescinded. That means, you CANNOT return to pursue your honours degree once you have graduated with a BA.
