Student Exchange Programme: What Must I Do?

Before Application

Application Rounds

Before applying for the overseas Student Exchange Programme (SEP), it is important for students to read through the Conditions & Instructions for the SEP and also take note of the round of the SEP applications:

Round 1/1st Round is open to students who are interested in applying for Semester 1, 2 or Semester 1 and 2 (full year exchange) of the next academic year.

Round 2/2nd Round applications are for only Semester 2 of the next academic year.

Semesters for SEP

Students may go on SEP in the 3rd , 4th or 5th semesters of their studies. Students are not allowed to go on SEP in their graduating semester. They must spend their graduating semester in NUS.

As FASS does not have a compulsory 4-year programme, students have the option to graduate at the end of 3 years if they complete B.A. requirements. Although a student may have every intention to complete an honours degree, extenuating circumstances may compel the student to opt to graduate once he/she completes a B.A. Hence, FASS students may go on exchange up to their 5th semester only.

If you would like to go for SEP on your 6th Semester

If you would like to apply for SEP in your 6th semester, you will need to

  • submit a letter with your application, stating

    • that you will be pursuing your honours studies

    • you understand that by going on exchange in your sixth or graduating semester, you

      1. Will be graduating one semester later and would only attend commencement in the following academic year. (Assuming you will graduate with a B.A. Students may intend to proceed to honours but circumstances may cause them to decide to graduate once they complete BA requirements. Hence the shortest candidature period is used.)

      2. Are wiling to accept the consequences of:
        1. delayed graduation, i.e. having to spend another semester in NUS and attending commencement one year later;
        2. payment of tuition fees for an additional semester (if applicable);
        3. delayed promotion from ARS3 to ARS4/SOC4; and
        4. inability to read modules that are offered in only one semester of the academic year (hence exacerbating the effects of the preceding points.
  • Please read carefully the notice on the Maximum Number of Credit Transfer as well.
