Student Exchange Programme: What Must I Do?

Upon Selection

How will you be notified and what to do

If your application is successful, you will receive an e-mail notification of offer to your NUS e-mail account within 7 working days from the closing date.

As soon as you accept the offer, you will need to prepare the supporting documents needed for the Partner University that you have been assigned to.

Supporting documents to prepare

You will need to submit these documents to the FASS, Dean's Office by the given deadline (stated in the email).

  • Original NUS Transcript
You will be notified that a copy of request for a transcript will be automatically directed to Registrar's Office once you are selected. The Office of Finance will bill you directly.

  • Original Endorsement Letter for SEP from Scholarship Awarding Organisation
Only applicable if you have a scholarship/award (eg. MOE Teaching Award)

  • Original Certification of Financial Resource
This certification must be a letter from a bank. If your parent(s) are sponsoring you for the SEP, it is important that the letter states your parent(s) name, your name and the amount in the account. A copy of the account's balance statement is not acceptable.

  • Copies of your 'O' and/or 'A' level certificates (not result slips)
If available, please submit these as well. Kindly bring the originals to the Dean's Office to certify those true copies.

  • 2 letters of recommendation

    • At least one must be from an NUS lecturer/tutor.
(family, relative or friends cannot be referees)

    • Letters should be issued 3 months from the date of application.

    • The letters should be addressed to "To Whom It May Concern".

    • The letters should state the reasons why you should be nominated to go on the exchange.

    • Ensure that all the recommendation letters are signed.

  • Passport particulars

  • Assigned Partner University 's application form
You are to download the Partner University 's application form(if any). You are strongly encouraged to consult the Partner University's homepage to check if there are any additional documents they require.

  • Please apply for these documents immediately as it usually takes a few days for the relevant Offices to process your request.

After Submission

The Registrar's Office will issue the letter of selection and certification of status to students who have been selected for the University-wide partners. The Dean's Office will do so for students selected for Faculty-wide and Departmental-wide partners.

The letter of selection and certification of status will be useful should you need to apply for credit cards or provide documentation to show that you are an NUS Exchange Student. You should keep the originals and make copies if needed.

Your application materials will be collated and forwarded to the respective Assigned Partner Universities for their consideration. At this stage, you are applying to the

Assigned Partner University . They have to accept you as an Exchange Student.

It may take some time (occasionally months) before you receive news from the Assigned Partner University regarding your application. Further correspondence regarding the application is made directly to the student.

If your application is successful, the Assigned Partner University will send you an Admission/Acceptance package. If the Registrar's Office/Faculty receives the package, you will be notified by e-mail to collect the package. You should try to collect the package as early as possible because some partner Universities set a deadline for the offer. If the student does not reply by the deadline given, the offer expires
