Applications are invited from candidates who meet the following requirements:


  1. Possess a good Masters degree in a relevant discipline; or

  2. Have an NUS Honours degree (at least Second Class Upper Division) or equivalent (e.g., a 4-year Bachelors degree with an average grade above B) in a relevant discipline, subject to approval by the Faculty, on a case-by-case basis

  3. Have at least intermediate competence in 1 Asian language at the point of application and be prepared to develop that competence to “advanced” level, and to undertake the study of another language to “intermediate” competence.  


  5. For applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not English, to obtain an IELTS score of 6.0 or the following TOEFL scores:

    1. 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or

    2. 580 for the paper-based test; or

    3. 237 for the computer-based test.


TOEFL or IELTS are only valid for two (2) years after the test and the validity should not expire before the beginning of the application period.
