FASS Overseas Education Programme (OEP) Award

The Overseas Education Programme (OEP) Award is introduced to support our undergraduates who are NUS  scholarship recipients (except those holding the Global Merit Scholarships) in their overseas education experience.

Application period

In the semester prior to departing for the SEP/NOC programme commencing  in :
Semester 1 1 to 15 July
Semester 2 1 to 15 December
Semester 3 & 4 1-15 April

Value of award

Regular semester

  • From $2,500 up to a maximum of $5,000.
  • Quantum awarded  will vary, with the financially needy students receiving a higher quantum.


Special term

  • from $400 up to a maximum of $3,000.

Disbursement

In the beginning of the semester that the student departs for the OEP/NOC programme through student’s NUS account.

Eligibility

FASS students who are holding NUS scholarships at the time of their OEP:

  • NUS Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship
  • NUS Undergraduate Scholarship
  • Kent Ridge Undergraduate (Merit) Scholarship
  • Kent Ridge Undergraduate Scholarship

The OEP must be formal student exchange agreements such as FASS places offered under the University –level , Faculty-level and Department-level SEPs/OEPs and NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) Programmes such as the year –long programmes conducted at Silicon Valley or Bio Valley.

  • must not hold any other OEP/NOC programmes financial awards or any other financial awards that provide for costs of the same OEP/NOC programme
  • students are expected to make satisfactory progress towards completion of their academic programme and be good ambassadors for the Faculty. Hence, the sponsored value must be returned to FASS if the student does not complete the OEP/NOC programme or does not complete it satisfactorily (eg. failure to pass all the modules or subject to disciplinary action at the partner university / company, etc)
  • students must transfer at least 18MCs in each semester, for the sponsored OEP/NOC programme.
  • students can only enjoy this scholarship once in their entire undergraduate candidature.
  • DDP students (whereby FASS is their second home faculty) are not eligible for this award.

Application Process

Students are required to complete the online form.. The completed online form , together with the supporting documents must be submitted personally to the Dean’s Office at AS7 level 5 within the application period.

The NUS Sociology Alumni Bursary Fund (initiated by Pioneer Class of '69)

The NUS Sociology Alumni Bursary Fund (initiated by Pioneer Class of '69), previously known as the FASS Class of '69 Sociology Alumni Bursary, is initiated and gifted by classmates of the Pioneer Class of '69 in commemoration of their 45th year of graduation in 2014. It aims to benefit 2 Sociology majors annually.

Application period

1 February - 1 April

Value of Award

The bursary is valued up to $3000 and tenable for 1 year.

Eligibility

The bursary is available to FASS students who are:

  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Year 3 or Year 4 Sociology Majors
  • in financial need (based on indicators such as monthly family per capita income)

Awardees must not concurrently hold any other awards such as scholarships, grants, bursaries or free aid, without the prior approval of the Bursary Selection Committee as well as the respective awarding bodies.

Application Process

  • Students are required to complete the online form.
  • Selected applicants will be called up for interview and successful applicants will be notified by email.

Upon Successful Application

Submit the Acceptance Form.

Alice Goh Scholarship

Department Level: Scholarship

Alice Goh Scholarship

Madam Alice Goh was the first wife of one of Singapore’s founding leaders, Dr Goh Keng Swee. A pioneer of children’s social service centres in Singapore, she was widely remembered as an able administrator who was quiet but popular. In memory of the late Madam Alice Goh, her family has set up an endowed fund with the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore to establish the Alice Goh Scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded to deserving Undergraduate, Masters (by coursework) and Graduate Diploma students from the Department of Social Work.

The award of this scholarship will commence in AY2013/14 Semester 1.

 

Application Period

Applications will be opened in June for a month. Students embarking on the Social Work Honours programme, Masters students pursuing a degree by coursework, in the Master of Social Work programme, and students pursuing the Graduate Diploma in Social Work programme are invited to apply.

 

Value of Scholarship

Two scholarships of S$7,000 each will be awarded in each academic year to Undergraduate, Masters (by coursework), and Graduate Diploma in Social Work students.

 

Disbursement

The Scholarship will be given to the students in August.

 

Eligibility

  • Only Singapore citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents will be eligible for the Scholarship.
  • Financial need (based on indicators such as family per capita income indicator) will be given the highest priority in the event of equal academic merit between two or more applicants.
  • Students awarded the Scholarship are not allowed to hold any other bursaries or scholarships from NUS or other organizations without the consent of the awarding Committee.
  • Undergraduate Level

A student embarking on the Social Work Honours programme who has a minimal CAP of 4.0 and minimal B+ aggregate for both field practice modules:

SW3103A Social Work Field Practice (I); and

SW3104 Social Work Field Practice (II)

  • Masters and Graduate Diploma Levels

A Masters (by coursework) student enrolled in the Master of Social Work programme, or Graduate Diploma student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Social Work programme, who has completed at least 2 Social Work modules at level 5000 and above with a minimum grade of “B” each for the 2 modules.

 

Application Process

Students are required to complete the application form.

The completed form, together with the supporting documents, must be submitted personally to the Department at AS3 level 4, within the application period.

Successful applicants will be notified by email.

 

Upon Successful Application
